New Online Training To Build Freight Planning Expertise

New Online Training To Build Freight Planning Expertise

A new free online training course has been launched to help local authority transport and planning officers better understand the needs of the freight and logistics sector.

Developed by Transport for the South East, Transport East and England’s Economic Heartland, the course aims to support better-informed planning decisions by embedding freight considerations earlier in the planning process.

The four-module course covers:

  • How freight and logistics operations work
  • Why the freight sector is vital to the economy
  • The fundamentals of freight management
  • The relationship between freight, transport planning and land-use decisions

Designed for transport and planning professionals, the training provides practical insight into how freight movement and servicing requirements can be considered more effectively when developing policies, plans and new developments.

Kate Over, Transport Strategy Manager at Transport for the South East, said:

“Freight considerations can sometimes be overlooked until later in the planning process. This training is designed to help officers consider freight requirements earlier, leading to more effective outcomes for both local authorities and industry.”

The training has been recognised as part of the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme and is available free of charge through the CIHT Learn platform.

The course can also be accessed through the TfSE Centre of Excellence, where learners can find additional resources, including an introductory webinar.
