We are pleased to announce the elections of Cllr Simon Curry as Chair and Cllr Peter Candlish as Vice Chair of Transport for the South East at the TfSE Partnership Board meeting on 13 July.
Cllr Curry, portfolio holder for Climate Change and Strategic Regeneration at Medway Council, succeeds Keith Glazier as Chair, having served as Deputy Chair for two years. Cllr Candlish, Cabinet Member for Transport at Portsmouth City Council, moves into the Deputy role having served two years as a board member.
Following his appointment, Cllr Curry said: “It’s a real privilege to take on this role and build on the strong collaborative work already underway across the southeast. The biggest challenge we face is funding.
With no Department for Transport funding available next year, we need to be clear-eyed about the task ahead and ambitious in securing the investment this region needs to support growth, opportunity and connectivity.
We are the gateway to Europe and one of the country’s largest economies, and we need government to recognise that with the investment to match. I’ve also heard directly from residents, including young people, about what they need from transport, and that will shape our approach.
I look forward to working with local authority partners, business and the wider transport sector to make that case for the delivery of sustainable development for our communities.”
