We’re delighted that Brighton’s seafront arches renewal project has secured £22 million in government funding, supporting a scheme identified by TfSE as a strategic regional priority.
King’s Road is supported by a network of Victorian arches that need urgent replacement to avoid the risk of collapse and possible closure of the strategically-important A259 seafront road.
The new funding means that dozens of historic arches, from the bandstand to west of Shelter Hall are scheduled to be replaced by 2029.
Included in our Strategic Investment Plan and developed through our work on the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Major Road Network programme, the project is vital to the long-term resilience of Brighton and Hove’s seafront.
TfSE supported Brighton & Hove City Council in developing the business case, helping to demonstrate the scheme’s importance to both the city and the wider region.
The funding award highlights the value of partnership working between local authorities, TfSE and the DfT in delivering infrastructure that supports economic growth and network resilience.
