£5bn bus and cycle funding announcement is good news for South East – but investment can’t stop there

Commenting in response to the Government’s announcement re: progressing with HS2 and new funding for bus and cycle infrastructure, Cllr Keith Glazier, chair of Transport for the South East, said:

“Today’s announcement is good news for people and businesses in the South East and across the UK. As our transport strategy makes clear, a better connected, greener and more affordable transport system will help boost our economy, improve access to opportunities and drive down carbon emissions. But the investment can’t stop there.

“The South East’s transport infrastructure is absolutely critical to sustainable growth and prosperity across all parts of the UK. Our region contributes more to the national economy than any region outside London and is our country’s main international gateway for people and goods. That’s why we need to see increased investment in our transport infrastructure, helping to grow the economy and create jobs here in the South East and support the investment already taking place in other regions.”
