WELCOME TO TFSE'S
Centre of Excellence
Context
Transport Centres of Excellence (CoE) were developed as part of the commitment from the government included in The Levelling Up White Paper (February 2022).
Following this, the Department for Transport (DfT) asked Sub-national Transport Bodies (STBs) to deliver a platform, with a focus on building Local Transport Authorities’ (LTAs’) capability and providing support in the context of the following areas:
Purpose
The Transport for the South East (TfSE) CoE seeks to focus on these DfT objectives, and provide support to boost capability and communications within the region. This will help LTAs as they interact with the objectives and the evolving challenges in the sector.
Specifically, the platform sets out with the following objectives.
- Developing effective business cases, as and when these are required to secure investment.
- Ensuring each LTA develops and maintains a pipeline of future schemes.
- Provide support to Local Transport Authorities on reducing the environmental impact of transport in their area. When doing this, STBs should provide information, data, and an evidence-base to Local Transport Authorities, to allow elected leaders to make informed decision. STBs should be careful not to push a particular intervention or another and should always be led by the decisions of elected leaders of Local Authorities.
- Respond to the unique needs and requirements of the transport authorities in the south east.
- Enable knowledge sharing across geographies.
- Utilise both this virtual platform and a wider supporting network.
