The final version of the Economic Connectivity Review of the South East has been published, the first part of a transport strategy for the region.

The review identifies the economic priorities for strategic transport in the region and the growing importance of the South East as the UK’s international gateway, especially after Brexit.

The study was carried out by consultants Steer (formerly Steer Davies Gleave) and revised after formal comments from more than 50 organisations and individuals with an interest in the regional strategy.

The review analyses transport corridors in the South East and how investment in them would yield economic growth. It also picks out the industrial sectors most likely to drive future growth to 2050 and considers the developments in infrastructure, technology and skills on which they will rely.

Cllr Keith Glazier, chairman of Transport for the South East, said: ‘This is detailed and impressive work which gives us evidence we will need to transform the South East’s transport network over the coming decades. The connections in the South East, with the rest of the UK and with the world beyond are absolutely crucial to our prosperity, society and environment.’
